a view from within

Beyond the Veil

At the age of seventeen, Pauline Grogan entered the convent and seven years later took her final vows. At age 29, desecrated and bewildered, she found herself back within the secular world, having to begin her life all over again

When Penguin Books published Pauline's Autobiography they described her book as, "The Extraordinary Story of an Ordinary New Zealand Woman.

"Touching, inspirational and sometimes shocking it is the tale of survival and the triumph of love and faith in the face of abuse and apparently insurmountable odds".

Shortly after her book was published Rob Harley of Television New Zealand's TV1 presented a documentary on her life in the "Extreme Close Up" series.
As a naive teenager Pauline flew to Australia to become a Catholic Nun. After 12 years she found herself struggling to adapt back to the secular world. Since her book was first published in 1996 she feels she has lived another lifetime.

Pauline Grogan is a challenging and entertaining writer whose books have drawn critical acclaim in Australia and New Zealand. She has been described as "a writer who can capture and entrance". Her writings are a triumph as she recounts true life stories with humour, honesty, humility and conviction."
